Alright, it is not that poor. However, it will temper the enthusiasm a bit. I get a feeling of”why can not we just hurry up and get on the routers and routers? Why do we need to know this dry material?”
One rationale is that Cisco needs you understand the OSI model inside and outside for the Intro and ICND exams. Pupils locate the OSI model advice to be dry, although you need to admit that is a good reason.

Therefore I dutifully tried to incorporate this gigantic chart. I wondered what all that campaign had been for, although I was able to pass the examination. It is not like you go over the OSI model and sit in a server room or wiring closet.
For a CCNA candidate, you do not need to think about all of the protocols I memorized back when, however you really do need to understand what happens at each layer. Which leads to the question:
“Should I utilize switches and routers, why do I need to be conscious of the rest of the layers? Do not routers and switches only work at layers 3 and 2?”
Yes, switches operate at Layer 2 and routers at Layer 3. However, to understand media, you have got to know what happens in the other layers. Why?
Most system engineers and administrators will devote much more time tracking than simply installing. That is just the way it is. And also to troubleshoot effectively, you have got to understand what is happening in all layers of the OSI model, not only 3 and layers 2.
